Cabbage, green onion, ramen noodles and toasted almonds are dressed with a highly seasoned vinegar and oil dressing and chilled. The salad that emerges a few hours later from the fridge is robust and delicious.
Tiny yellow or red-fleshed potatoes are boiled until tender, smushed a little bit, then drizzled with an herb-infused oil and balsamic vinegar seasoning. The potatoes then get a trip through a hot oven to crisp up.
My Mother's family originally came from Sicily and every family member makes his or her own version - this version came most recently via Brooklyn. Use your favorite meat and Italian red wine for this sauce and serve with your favorite pasta. This also is a great pizza sauce if you leave out about half of the meat.
